The Bugle: a traditional Brighton pub

The Bugle Inn (often shortened by locals to 'The Bugle') has been operating as a pub since it was constructed in 1850.

The pub received it's name when soldiers stationed at Preston Barracks on Lewes Road and frequented the pub. If they went further than the The Bugle, they would not be able to hear the sound of the evening Bugler calling them back to the barracks.

On the edge of central Brighton, it does not gather crowds and tourists like the pubs in the center of town do. Instead, The Bugle relies on the custom of a solid group of regulars who come in several times a week, or sometimes every day.
